Bold Voices: Dr. Nafeesah Allen on Ensuring A Global Approach to Equity & Inclusion

Nafeesah Allen, Ph.D. is a multi-lingual author, independent researcher, editor, and contributing writer for Real Simple, Better Homes & Gardens, House Beautiful, and mindbodygreen, among other online publications.

In 2019, Dr. Allen completed her Ph.D. in Forced Migration from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in Johannesburg, South Africa. In 2013, she completed a postgraduate diploma in Folklore & Cultural Studies at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in New Delhi, India where she received the Gold Medal for meritorious academic performance for her ethnographic thesis on women of the Indian Diaspora. She completed a Masters of International Affairs at Columbia University in 2009 and graduated cum laude from Barnard College at Columbia University in 2006. Her research specializes in post-colonial studies, African and Indian Diasporas, Iberian colonization, Lusophone histories, Geopolitical diversity, as well as race and social policy.

In late 2020 she launched, a book review website highlighting global Black histories organized by language, location, and theme.

Currently, she is completing a full-length book to be published by Palgrave tentatively titled, Indo-Mozambicans: Competing Decolonization in the Lusophone Indian Ocean.

Originally from New Jersey, Nafeesah has lived in Spain, India, Mozambique, Angola, and South Africa. She speaks four languages, but primarily publishes in English.

Dr. Allen offers coaching services and is accepting commissioned writing work in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
